Board Requirements

• Several emergency departments across one hospital system

• Annual Volume: ~20,000–100,000 per site

• Patients per Hour: ~2.0 (up to ~3.0 with APP coverage)

• Admission Rate: ~20% system average (some sites up to ~30%)

• Trauma Level: No Level I or Level II centers

Practice Environment

• EMR: Epic (Epic Chat, Dragon Dictation, PACS, MUSE for EKGs)

• Scribes: Yes — transitioning to AI scribes

• Admitting Orders: No

• Floor Codes: Yes, with transition of care to hospitalist / ICU teams

Facilities

• Hospital Beds: ~100–500 depending on site

• ED Beds: ~16–50+ depending on site

Specialty Backup

• Comprehensive services at larger hospitals

• Limited specialty coverage at some freestanding emergency departments

• Established transfer protocols across the system

Schedule

• Shift Length: ~9–10 hours

• Shift Times: Overlapping physician shifts vary by site
